I love my family, chosen career and the life experiences I have had so far. I spend my downtime reading everything insight and traveling. I strongly believe that passion and knowledge are the key ingredients to success, along with adaptability, tenacity, and having the fortitude to rise after every fall. I attribute where I am today to this grounding principle.
What many people may not know about you?
I majored in commercial aviation management for the first two years of my undergrad studies. I wanted to be a pilot, and still plan to be.
What's your inspiration and how do you get motivated?
I am very inspired by my family and their constant, unwavering love and support. I am motivated by my desire to continue to be deserving of my family and a need to create and influence positive change.
How did you get to where you are now and what more should we expect?
I am where I am today because I have been; (i) blessed with a strong and supportive family, (ii) great people have shared their time and wisdom with me along my journey and (iii) I have a talent I am determined to share with the world.
What the future holds remains a mystery, so I can tell you of my hopes. I hope to continue to grow personally and professionally. I hope to continue to be afforded the opportunity to pursue my passions. I hope to make significant contributions socially and professionally.
What would you like to be remembered for?
My work, and contributing to positive social change.
How do you balance work, family, friends and leisure?
I am not sure I have achieved a balance as yet, however, because I am doing what I love it never really feels like work and therefore I feel no need for a defined leisure time. A very understanding and supportive family, and circle of friends who accommodate my less than perfect work schedule also make it seem as if I am closer to establishing a balance.
What's your favorite food, book, music and movie?
Food? Anything my mommy or daddy prepares and anything I do not have to cook.
Book? I have several favourite books including Gifted Hands and Think Big by Dr. Benjamin Carson.
Music? My favourite changes depending on my mood however anything from Tracy Chapman or Nina Simone always works.
Film? Shawshank Redemption.
What's your experience as a Black person in Canada?
I believe my experience has been much the same as any other young entrepreneur trying to make a name in a competitive industry. It has been challenging, but rewarding at times. Opportunities often do not seem readily available, but these experiences have also been a source of inspiration to create my own opportunities.
Are there as many opportunities for Blacks in Canada that can produce role models and institutions like TD Jakes, Beyonce, Tyler Perry, Obama, BET, etc.
I am a strong believer in creating your own opportunities so my short answer is YES, Black Canadians can rise to the prominence of the above-mentioned African Americans. Is it easy? NO, but I think we are only as limited as our dreams, aspirations and determination.
Mention a few of your favorite Black Canadian Leaders, Artists and Role Models?
While there are quite a few notable Black Canadian Leaders among my favourites are:
The Honourable Lincoln M. Alexander, Rosemary Brown, and Harriet Tubman. While the following are not Black Canadians I think they are worth mentioning in my list of influencers and favourites: Dr. Benjamin Carson, Ernest Wilkins Jr. and Alexandre Dumas.
Should & do Blacks support / patronize black music, events and businesses?
Yes I do believe we should and are great patrons of the arts and entertainment industry. Additionally, our strong cultural influence is evident in music, art, pop culture and business.
